The average adult in modern society understands what it’s like to stress over time constraints. Many people have full-time jobs, and some have side hustles happening simultaneously. Marriages, careers, family life and a myriad of other obligations often leave little time for personal pursuits, such as writing a novel. In this post, you’ll discover three writing tips. These tips may be helpful to you if you have the workings of a book swirling around in your mind and are struggling to find time to sit down and write.
There are no steadfast rules about writing regarding time on a clock. Authors who are earning an income from their books may have deadlines to meet. However, even if that’s the case, there’s undoubtedly a certain amount of flexibility available when it comes to time spent writing. If you want to write a book but feel like you don’t have the time, these three writing tips might come in handy.
Which of these writing tips will help you the most?
If writing a novel is on your bucket list, you must make time to write. Your book isn’t going to write itself. You might be surprised to learn that you probably have more time available to write than you think you do. Review these writing tips and implement one or all, as needed:
- Writing your book doesn’t have to be a regimented daily activity. If you are under heavy time constraints, consider setting broader goals regarding time, such as committing to a specific number of hours per week, then working them when you can. When writing is your full-time job, it’s easy to write every day; those with other work obligations, family responsibilities and more, however, will want to avoid the write-everyday-mentality. Not writing everyday does not necessarily mean you’re failing to achieve your goals.
- Sacrifice a hobby or time spent doing other things for writing time, instead. If you’re in the habit, for example, of checking email and scrolling social media for an hour or two each evening, consider spending that time (or, at least, part of it) writing your book.
- Set time aside for power-writing. Are you at your mental best in the wee hours of the morning or late at night? Devote some of this time to writing. Do you have vacation time available at work? Take one or several days off and spend most of your time writing. (You might even consider going to a cabin or other vacation spot to stimulate creativity.) Perhaps a writer’s retreat would be a good fit for you!
Implementing at least one of these writing tips can help boost productivity. Just think of what you’ll be able to accomplish if you incorporate all three tips into your writing plan! Keep your eyes on the finish line. As long as you’re always moving forward, you’ll reach your goal.
